Hello all,
I found the line drawing for Spiderman Red Sonja #1 online. I inked and colored it and would like to share it here. I wanted to know if that is OK or should I get permission from the owner of the image to do so. Forgive me if this seems like a naive question. I am usually far removed from these matters and don't want to infringe on someone's intellectual property.
Thank you,
Chris.

I think you're in the clear. Go ahead. I know I'm curious to see.

Pencils by Michael Turner.
I have no formal art training and this is my first attempts at inking and coloring. I have been a fan of Michael Turner's work for some time, (Yours too Peter. ) and wanted a new way to appreciate his work. I found some pencils online, and not being too familiar with the Spiderman-Red Sonja series I decided to give this a try. I picked this one in particular due to the variety of figures represented. I purposely avoided looking at the published version while I worked on this to see what I could do with as little outside influance as possible. After finishing I have a much greater appreciation for the work and time that goes into this art, and my hat goes off to those of you that do this.
Upon completion I did look back on Peter's version and must admit that mine seems a bit "Crayola 8". I welcome any and all comments and criticisms. (Just don't call me names!)
Thanks for your time,
Chris

Good job overall -since this is your first try you said. The inks could be cleaned up a bit (mostly thinking about Sonia's hair), and the outlines of the characters could use some more variation in line-weight. Looks a bit like animation cells right now.
What size was the piece when you inked it, and did you print it yourself using your own scanner? I'm asking because the bigger a piece is when inking the more details you can fit in -original 11x17 is best, imo- and it looks like the scan picked up a lot of 'residue'. If you print the lineart in a slightly pale-blue tint the scanner doesn't pick the non inked parts up.
Colours aren't my strong side, but to me it's a bit dark and muddy, and Sonia looks like a corpse/zombie with the skin-tone you went with. Sorry.
But, yea -for being your first go at it; good job.

Simon, Thank you.
Ha Ha, I see the corpse thing now, that's great. I did some test prints and she looked too tan, so I lightened her up a bit. It looks better printed, but you are right, she does look dead and grey on the screen.
I printed the pencils 8.5"x11", as that is all my printer and scanner can handle. The pencils were printed in black, and you are right it did pick up some in the final scan. If I try this again I will find a way to print them in blue.
I am not sure what you mean by the inks could be cleaned up, could you please expand on that. (Lines not smooth, points not sharp, too many little details, not enough little details)
Thanks again.

I meant the 'residue' -there's a lot of hints of lines in Sonia's hair that weren't inked in.

i agree with clean up the inks, the only issue i see if sonja and spidey are on the same plane then the shadows should match, spidey is backlit so should be sonja.
the colors are abit muddy, but over all nice job.
