In 1994, Aspen MLT, Inc. founder Michael Turner ventured from Tennessee to California to begin his comic book career. Working for Image Comics’ Top Cow Productions, Michael began doing background illustrations but soon helped to create and launch the comic book series Witchblade in October of 1995. Quickly growing to become one of the most successful comic book titles of the 90’s, Michael served as an integral part of Witchblade’s immense popularity. Shifting focus, Michael went on to debut his first creator-owned series, Fathom, in the summer of 1998. An instant success, Fathom was a smash hit and earned the honor of becoming the number one selling comic book of that year. In the fall of 2002, Michael departed from Image Comics to start his own publishing company, Aspen MLT Inc.
Aspen MLT, Inc. continues to publish cutting edge comic book properties, spearheaded by successful properties such as Fathom, Soulfire, Executive Assistant: Iris, BubbleGun, Lola XOXO and more titles. As well, Michael Turner and Aspen MLT, Inc. have provided covers for the comic industry’s leading events, including Marvel Comic’s top-selling series Civil War, DC Comic’s best-selling series Superman/Batman: The Return of Supergirl, The Justice League of America, and his Eisner-nominated cover run on Identity Crisis. In 2007, Turner continued his run of covers on such acclaimed titles such as Fantastic Four, The Ultimate X-Men, and World War Hulk, leading to his iconic status as one of the greatest cover artists and comic book pencilers of all time. Turner also provided artwork and helped kick-start the launch of NBC’s popular Heroes web comics campaign. In June 2008, Turner tragically passed away after a long and heroic bout with cancer. However, his life and work have left an overwhelmingly positive legacy far and wide, and his inspiration continues on through all of Aspen’s endeavors.
